Preserving
the Memory of
the Jewish Community of Oradea, Romania
Mission
Honor the lives and contributions
of the tens of thousands of men, women and children of Oradea
who helped give the city its unusually enlightened and tolerant
character. Remember their ultimate fate: they were enslaved,
tormented and deported from their city in the spring of 1944.
Build a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural
international consensus around the need to honor and remember
them. Make their legacy of true stories, lessons and values
of tolerance, understanding and generosity available today,
to all, especially Oradea's children. Create a new place and
new means for native Oradeans and visitors to spend time in
a positive setting with each other and with aspects of the past
of their city.
Help build a better future in
Oradea by learning and teaching about the past, promoting a
renewed appreciation of diversity, tolerance and openness of
spirit.
